Melissa Shaffer (a.k.a. "The Literacy Tech Teacher") helps students realize their writing, speaking, and communication potential via technology. She has taught high school English for over 10 years in Korea, Pakistan, and, in the near future, Turkey. She recently piloted a reading and writing workshop model for high school freshmen and seniors.

As a Google Certified Educator, she wants teachers to realize the power of using technology in the classroom. Current students, teachers, and parents may have grown up digitally, but that does not mean they are digitally "literate" just because they use social media or can Google a word.


Melissa believes every teacher (not just English teachers!) is a teacher of literacy. 

When she's not teaching or writing, you'll find her training for her next triathlon, on a movie date with her husband, or playing with their three fur babies: Buddy, Pangu and Pumpkin.
